The artist remembers these autumn evenings as youthful contests. How big and bright could you make the fire? And how many times could you jump through the flames and smoke before a nearby adult called a halt to the fun? He also recalls, with a smile, one episode when the fire became so large that a nearby tree began burning, and soon a garage!
